Sandeman 2003 Vau Vintage

By Sandeman's own admission this is a wine made in the 'modern style', to be drunk now or over the next 15 years. It comes from a ripe year but the heat of the vintage is not evident in this wine which is well-made and, above all, well-balanced. As you will see from the note below I would recommend drinking this in its full bloom of youth.

Sandeman 2003 Vau Vintage ****

Deep and youthful in colour; well-focused, ripe, fragrant, up-front berry and plum fruit on the nose; rich and smooth, ripe cassis fruit initially on the palate, peppery tannin building in the mouth leading to a fine, firm finish. This is not an especially big wine, it is quite straightforward in style and is really very satisfying. Drink now for its youth and primary fruit character. Great value at around £20. 17
