2011 Vintage Port - Part II

These are two wines to which I didn't give very fair coverage when I first tasted them earlier in the year so I received new samples and have now had the chance to re-taste them at leisure (and in cooler weather). Although the labels read 'cask sample' these wines have evidently been bottled as the samples I recived had the Port and Douro Wine Institute seal under the capsule.

Delaforce 2011 ***/****

Now owned by Real Companhia Velha, this wine is produced from grapes grown in the Torto and Roncão valleys in the company’s own vineyards: good, deep colour; demure on the nose with fresh, stony fruit underlying; firm, fleshy fruit, mid-weight with lovely stony tannins and medium grip, not especially big but long and elegant, a well constructed wine for the mid to long term.  2025 – 2040  16+

Royal Oporto 2011  ** / ***

Mid to Deep crimson colour; slightly green, weedy berry fruit aromas; firm peppery, berry fruit character, soft, gravelly tannins with some spicy grip on the finish, a bit skinny in the context of 2011 but a reasonably good mid-term wine.  2021- 2035 14.5
