Krohn Colheita Ports

I tasted this pair of old colheitas at the end of last year for the launch of the House of Tantalus Port Library. Since then the producer, Wise & Krohn, has been sold to the Fladgate Partnership who own Taylor, Fonseca and Croft, so it is likely that we will be seeing more of these beautifully kept old wines in future. The following wines were selected and specially bottled for the House of Tantalus with more information on their website:  www.houseoftantalus.com/

Krohn 1900 Colheita ****

Mid-mahogany colour with an olive-green rim; rich and mellifluous on the nose, slightly autumnal with beautiful texture and concentration, intense tawny marmalade flavours and a long rich finish. This wine is still in wonderful condition for its age.  17.5

Krohn 1896 Colheita **** / *****

Deep walnut-mahogany colour, thin olive green rim; rich caramelized fruit on the nose, fragrant and lifted, dried apricots and caramelized oranges both on the nose and palate, still remarkably fresh and refined for a wine of this age with ethereal concentration and poise on the finish. 18.5
